On the evening of Tuesday, December 6th, Women in Music (WIM) hosted their annual holiday party at Le Poisson Rouge. The weather was less than spectacular, misty rain with high humidity, but that did not deter guests from coming out to support the cause. Upon arrival with my homegirl Glenny, there was a line down the block filled mostly with umbrella toting women in their best outfits. As stated in previous posts, I am a new member, so had no idea what to expect; the line alone made my heart smile. Once inside, we surveyed the venue and not one thing was out of place. The membership was prominent at the entrance with sponsor signage, the silent auction table overflowed with prize options in the Gallery Bar, along with a huge cheese platter courtesy of Bedford Cheese Shop. The main space was set and lit to perfection; a stage to right, cocktail tables surrounding, and the rotating deejays up in the booth.
The evening began with a word from President Evangelia Livanos, introducing guests to the board and thanking everyone for coming out, along with thanking all sponsors:
- Oxygen Media
- Absolut Vodka
- Pabst Blue Ribbon
- Vitamin Water
- Bedford Cheese Shop
- Pop Chips
- BMI, SESAC, ASCAP
- Joe Lambert Mastering
- Treehouse Sound Studio
After the thank you’s, we were treated to a special performance by R&B group Allure. The ladies came together in 1997 and were signed to the Crave Records (Mariah Carey’s label), and are known for their hit songs “All Cried Out” and “Head Over Heels” which featured NaS. I was soooo excited to see them perform because I was a huge fan of them when I was younger, and was happy to see that they are back to pursue their music. They sang a holiday tune, their hits, and some new tracks, all with great energy and tons of crowd participation.
Immediately after the performance, I ran upstairs to work the membership table. I really enjoyed doing this because I was able to chat it up with guests and spread the good word of WIM to the masses. Collectively, we signed up a bunch of new members, a great feeling indeed! The ambience was the perfect mix of a party and networking; conversations flowed freely and nothing was stuffy. The night continued on in a celebratory mode with cocktails, convo, and dancing. Everyone looked like they had a great time, which made me very happy! Check out the photos below from the event.
