Cole Haan has done it again with yet another amazing design collaboration, this time with Brooklyn musician Theophilus London. London, who embodies all things cool, was featured in the Cole Haan Spring 2011 campaign. The collaboration evolved from there. Together they have created the Cole Haan Theophilus Blue Suede Buck. Crafted of highly pigmented nubuck and lined in supple cow leather, I like to call it the quintessential “blue suede shoe”. The attention to detail taken in this project is highly visible, from the clean lines, crisp color, internal construction for superb comfort, and Theophilus London signature in gold on the insole. The limited edition shoes are accompanied by a 10″ vinyl recording of “Calypso Blues” by Nat King Cole, as performed by London.
An exclusive to Cole Haan SoHo, the launch was celebrated on Tuesday in-store. DJ Mia Moretti spun tunes for the evening ranging from hip-hop, to reggae, to electro; all elements that are evident in the eclectic musical stylings of Theophilus London. Guests were treated to Caribbean inspired hors d’oeuvres and drinks to evoke a familiar vibe; Theophilus and his family are from Trinidad, and many were in attendance, a family affair!
Along with family and fans, the event also brought out celebs and tastemakers alike. Sightings included Spike Lee, Mos Def, and Angela Simmons, among others.
The night ended with a live performance from London of “Calypso Blues”, “Why Even Try”, and “Last Name London”.
The shoes, again, are a very limited edition, available at Cole Haan SoHo (128 Prince St., NYC) for $228. Get them before they’re gone!
