Fresh outta Toronto, and not named Drake or Kardinal Offishall, we have The Weeknd. A musical talent that writes, produces, and sings, he released his acclaimed mixtape this spring entitled “House of Balloons”. Filled with dark sounds, sexual innuendo, and references to illegal substances (what great music is made of, in my opinion) the mixtape draws you in, not leaving much to the imagination. The content is geared to adults, and very honest, so I wouldn’t suggest you play this for the kiddies. Standout track “Glass Table Girls” gets me every time. Musically categorized as “indie electro”, the production is flawless, and evokes great emotion in a dark place. It takes you on a sonic journey in a little over six minutes. Open your ears, and dive in.
