Take a Bite: Van Leeuwen Artisan Ice Cream

If you’ve ever perused the streets around the Flatiron District or SOHO in the summertime, your eyes have more than likely spotted a dozen food and treats trucks. They offer various goodies, including desserts, pizza, drinks, schnitzels, and more. In this sea of trucks, there is one painted a buttercreme yellow that looks as if it were taken from yesteryear. This is the Van Leeuwen Artisan Ice Cream truck.  My first encounter with the truck was back in 2008 when I was working in retail in SOHO. I was on a quick break, so wasn’t able to get anything, but eventually purchased my first cone last summer from one of their trucks in the Flatiron district. I believe it was the Giandujia flavor, which is a blend of chocolate and hazelnut; absolutely DIVINE. The mixture of both flavors was in perfect proportions, and not too sweet, as many ice creams can be. If you’re ever in these neighborhoods, look out for the truck below and have a piece of ice cream heaven!
